Anemia among adult patients with diabetes attending King Abdulaziz University Hospital: A retrospective study.

The prevalence of anemia in adults with diabetes is of growing importance due to its impact on overall health and the management of diabetes-related complications. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of anemia among adult patients with diabetes at King Abdulaziz University Hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. A retrospective study was done on 1208 patients with diabetes >18 years who attended the study setting from 2010 to 2022.

Lateral Pterygoid Muscle Biometric Modifications in Pterygoid Process Fractures Associated With Mandibular Fractures.

Purpose: Pterygoid process fractures (PPFs) are classically associated with Lefort fractures but can also be encountered in association with other facial fractures such as mandibular fractures. The aim of this study was to estimate the frequency of PPFs associated with mandibular fractures and identify factors associated with PPF.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a retrospective cross-sectional study using computed tomography scanning of patients having a mandibular fracture between November 2018 and April 2020.

Introduction: Pedicled flaps and free-tissue transfer flaps are used routinely to reconstruct hard and soft tissue defects in head and neck, limb, hand, thoracic and abdominopelvic reconstructive surgery. But failure remains a constant concern, particularly in free-tissue transfers. Usually failure is due to blood supply compromise.

Lithium remains the oldest and most effective treatment for mood stabilisation in bipolar disorder (BD), even though at least half of patients are only partially responsive or do not respond. This study aimed to identify biomarkers associated with lithium response in BD, based on comparing RNA sequencing information derived from lymphoblastoid cell lines (LCLs) of lithium-responsive (LR) versus lithium non-responsive (LNR) BD patients, to assess gene expression variations that might bear on treatment outcome. RNA sequencing was carried out on 24 LCLs from female BD patients (12 LR and 12 LNR) followed by qPCR validation in two additional independent cohorts (41 and 17 BD patients, respectively).
