We report the discovery and characterization of bacteriophages ASegato, DejaVu, Judebell, and RicoCaldo, isolated from grass samples collected in Quincy, Massachusetts, using B-24224 as the isolation host. Based on gene content similarity, these phages are assigned to actinobacteriophage clusters ED2, ED1, EG, and EK2 respectively.

Impact of myocardial injury on cardiovascular complications in hospitalized patients with COVID-19: insights from Latin America.

Introduction: Viral infection by SARS-CoV2 is a pandemic affecting over 600 million people worldwide. One of five hospitalized patients may present myocardial injury, strongly associated with disease severity and mortality.

Methodology: Retrospective cross-sectional study of hospitalized COVID-19 patients diagnosed between May 01, 2020, and June 30, 2021, from the database of the Registro Latinoamericano de Enfermedad Cardiovascular y COVID-19 (CARDIO COVID 19-20) with a troponin value recorded during hospitalization.

Collared Peccary Wallows are Hubs of Animal Activity and Diversity in a Central American Wet Forest.

Despite research linking peccary wallows to increased amphibian biodiversity in wet tropical forests in Amazonia, wallow use by the broader vertebrate community has been overlooked. We investigated collared peccary ( () ) activity patterns at wallows and used multiple detection methods to assess wallow use by the vertebrate community in a Central American lowland wet forest in northeastern Costa Rica. We found significantly higher vertebrate activity and diversity at wallows compared to the nearby surrounding understory forest.

Purification and Characterization of Transglutaminase Isolated from Sardine () Flesh Waste.

Transglutaminase (TGase) is an enzyme that catalyzes acyl transfer reactions by creating covalent cross-links between protein molecules and has been used to improve the physical and functional properties of protein-based foods. The objectives of this study were the extraction, purification, and biochemical characterization of TGase from sardine () flesh in order to provide a suitable TGase enzyme for food industry applications. Leishmaniasis is one of the most important neglected tropical diseases, with more than two million new cases annually. It is endemic in several regions worldwide, representing a public health problem for more than 88 countries, in particular in the tropical and subtropical regions of developing countries. At the moment, there are neither approved vaccines nor effective drugs for the treatment of human leishmaniasis for any of its three typical clinical manifestations, and, importantly, the drugs of clinical use have several side effects, require complex administration regimens, present high cost, and are ineffective in many populations due to pathogen resistance.
