Background: Fumarate hydratase-deficient renal cell carcinoma (FHRCC) is an aggressive carcinoma that typically presents as advanced-stage disease. Prompt recognition of FHRCC is critical for appropriate clinical care and genetic counseling for patients and family members. However, diagnosing FHRCC from cytology specimens is challenging, with limited characterization and no reports describing prospectively identified cases.

Declines in physical and cognitive function are common in older adults. The circulating enzyme glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-specific phospholipase D1 (GPLD1) is elevated after exercise and has been associated with improved cognitive function when administered to aged mice. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between GPLD1 and both cognitive function and brain structure/function in older adults with either high or low levels of physical activity.

Despite an increased risk of committing and experiencing violence among adolescent boys, little is known about either how different types of violence co-occur within individuals or their association with different risk factors. This study used a person-centered approach to (1) identify patterns in boys' perpetration and victimization across a range of 7 types of interpersonal violence (bullying, electronic aggression, sexual harassment/aggression; and psychological/ physical/sexual dating violence); and (2) examine the association of these patterns with 12 risk factors at the individual, relational, and community level to inform future prevention efforts. We used latent class analysis to identify patterns of violence among a diverse sample of 239 adolescent boys from 12 schools in 4 regions of the United States.

The endocrine consequences of weight loss by bariatric surgery (BS) and caloric restriction are not fully understood but contribute to variable improvements in insulin sensitivity and cardiometabolic health. This study compared changes in insulin sensitivity and plasma concentrations of gut peptides 8 weeks and 1 year after BS and a low-calorie diet (LCD). Nineteen female patients with obesity self-selected BS (gastric bypass [n = 5] or sleeve gastrectomy [n = 7]) or LCD (n = 7) in this parallel-arm, prospective observational study.
