Many witnesses are intoxicated at crime scenes, yet little is known of their ability to accurately describe perpetrators to police. We therefore explored the impact of alcohol on delayed verbal face recall across two experiments. Participants were administered an alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage prior to viewing either one or two unfamiliar female faces, which they described from memory the following day while in a sober state.

To determine if the use of theory, data and end-user perspectives to guide an adaptation of the Transdiagnostic Intervention for Sleep and Circadian Dysfunction (TranS-C) yields better outcomes and improves the "fit" of TranS-C to community mental health centers (CMHCs), relative to the standard version. Ten counties in California were cluster-randomized by county to Adapted or Standard TranS-C. Within each county, adults who exhibited sleep and circadian dysfunction and serious mental illness (SMI) were randomized to immediate TranS-C or Usual Care followed by Delayed Treatment with TranS-C (UC-DT).

Article Synopsis
  • Social stress can increase oxidative stress in the brain, potentially leading to mental health disorders, with previous studies showing that social hierarchies impact this stress.
  • In a study of cichlid fish, researchers found that dominant males (who are territorial and reproductively active) had lower oxidative DNA damage in the midbrain and greater antioxidant capacity compared to subordinate males.
  • The findings suggest that social status and reproductive activity influence oxidative balance in the brain, but the effects vary across different brain areas.

Wall-associated kinases (WAKs) and WAK-likes (WAKLs) are transmembrane pectin receptors which have seen rising interest in recent years due to their roles in stress responses and developmental pathways. Consequently, the genes encoding these proteins are continuously identified, described and characterised across a wide variety of plant species. The primary goal of characterizing these genes is to classify, describe and infer cellular function, mostly through methods.

Background: Eveningness chronotype-the tendency for later sleep and wake times-arises from a confluence of psychosocial, behavioral, and biological factors. With the onset and progression of puberty, many young people develop an eveningness chronotype, which remains prevalent through the transition into adulthood. Eveningness has been associated with increased risk for poorer health.
