The psychological impact of mass shootings on emergency physician mental health.

On October 1, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada, the largest mass shooting in US history was committed by a shooter high above the Route 91 Harvest Festival. In light of this tragedy and the increasing incidence and prevalence of mass shootings in America, it is important to examine how exposure to traumatic events (specifically mass shootings) affects the mental health of hospital physicians through the treatment of victims. This study sought to examine how witnessing mass shootings through the treatment of shooting victims psychologically affects physicians.

Co-Production of the 'My SJS Passport' to Support Survivors of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) Post Diagnosis and Beyond - A Proof of Concept Study.

Background: Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN) are life-threatening reactions that cause blistering of the skin and mucous membranes. Survivors can experience long term physical and psychological complications. The 'My SJS Passport' was co-produced by the Patient and Public Involvement group and research team at the Wolfson Centre for Personalised Medicine to improve the care and experiences of survivors.

Quantifying and improving rheumatoid arthritis algorithm performance in biobank settings.

Objective: To quantify and improve the performance of standard rheumatoid arthritis (RA) algorithms in a biobank setting.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study within the Mayo Clinic (MC) Biobank and MC Tapestry Study identified RA cases by presence of at least two RA codes OR positive anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies (CCP) plus disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug (DMARD) prescription as of 7/18/2022. Rheumatology physicians manually verified all RA cases using RA criteria and/or rheumatology physician diagnosis plus DMARD use.

Design and Staged Implementation of a Multidisciplinary Preoperative Anemia Clinic at a Tertiary Care Medical Center.

Background: Preoperative anemia is common and associated with adverse outcomes in surgical patients. There is limited information to guide the design and implementation of preoperative anemia clinics (PAC), which represents a critical barrier to entry for many practices.

Methods: This is a descriptive observational study highlighting the design and implementation of a multidisciplinary PAC, including key steps in planning, stakeholder engagement, organizational structure, identification of target populations, establishing anemia treatments, information technology and electronic health record integration, provider training, and data infrastructure.

Knowledge translation in Anglo-American paramedicine: a scoping review.

Objective: To map what is currently known about knowledge translation (KT) in Anglo-American paramedicine. The review focuses on reported barriers and facilitators to the implementation of new knowledge, and the use of models, theories and frameworks to guide implementation practice.

Design: Scoping review reported as per both the Joanna Briggs Institute and Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews reporting guidelines.
