Three female patients, aged 76, 64 and 74 years old, who were treated with low-dose methotrexate due to an inflammatory joint disorder, developed severe pain in a lower extremity. The pain increased on weight bearing and could not be explained by arthritis. Conventional x-ray investigation showed a fracture in the second patient.

We assessed to what extent the lung scan classification and pulmonary vascular perfusion changed over a period of 2-4 days of full anticoagulant therapy. In 312 consecutive patients with at least one segmental perfusion defect on the initial perfusion scan, classification of both the initial and the final lung scan allowed us to study alteration in scan classification.

We studied the clinical utility of incorporating the SimpliRED D-dimer test result and clinical probability in the routine diagnostic work-up of patients with suspected acute pulmonary embolism.
Methods: In a prospective management study 245 consecutive patients, hospitalised as well as outpatients, were included.
Objective: Gastric acid secretion and small intestinal motility are the main mechanisms of defense against bacterial overgrowth of the proximal digestive tract. Bacterial colonization of the stomach during gastric acid inhibition has been documented, but is probably without clinical consequence. However, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth can have serious clinical implications with malabsorption and diarrhoea.
