Are pancreatic tumors hormone dependent?: A case report of unusual, rapidly growing pancreatic tumor during pregnancy, its possible relationship to female sex hormones, and review of the literature.

The occurrence of a pancreatic tumor in a young patient is rare. However, when one identifies a pancreatic mass during pregnancy and particularly when the lesion is located in the tail of the pancreas, "unusual tumors" of the pancreas should be considered. The management of these tumors during pregnancy presents unusual challenges because of rapid tumor growth probably related to elevated levels of sex hormones.

Diagnostic dilemmas in soft tissue tumors of the head and neck.

Classifying soft tissue tumors of the head and neck is often difficult for both surgeon and pathologist because of the potential similarities in appearance of metastatic lesions, epithelial tumors, lymphomas, and inflammatory processes. This paper discusses four unusual soft tissue tumors of the head and neck: osteosarcoma of the mandible, biphasic synovial cell sarcoma of the hypopharynx, soft part sarcoma of the maxillary sinus/alveolus, and adult rhabdomyoma of the larynx. Precise diagnosis of these lesions requires adequate tissue sampling, immunocytochemical staining, and electron microscopy.

Fine-needle aspiration cytology of peripheral T-cell lymphoma. A cytologic, immunologic, and cytometric study.

The diagnosis of peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) is difficult. This entity can be misdiagnosed as Hodgkin's disease or a reactive process such as nonnecrotizing granulomatous lymphadenitis or it can present a problem in lymphoma classification. Fine-needle aspirates from 13 patients with histologically proven PTCL were evaluated by cytology, immunochemistry, and flow cytometry.

Renal-cell carcinoma with intranuclear inclusions metastatic to thyroid: a diagnostic problem in aspiration cytology.

A case of renal-cell carcinoma (RCC) exhibiting prominent intranuclear inclusions in a metastasis to the thyroid is presented. RCC had been treated in this patient by right nephrectomy 7 yr earlier and by left partial nephrectomy 5 yr earlier; the patient had also received radiation to the neck 4 yr earlier for carcinoma in situ of the left true vocal cord. Aspiration performed on a rapidly enlarging mass in the left lobe of the thyroid revealed both clusters of tumor cells and single tumor cells with prominent intranuclear inclusions.
