Disseminated Melioidosis Complicated by Prostatic Abscess and Splenic Involvement: Diagnostic and Therapeutic Insights.

This case report details the clinical course of a 53-year-old male farmer with a 15-year history of diabetes mellitus who presented with a 20-day history of pyrexia, rigors, and shivering, as well as problems in the urogenital system and left hypochondrial pain. Notably, he had been diagnosed with spinal tuberculosis, which was successfully treated five years ago. On evaluation, there was tenderness in the suprapubic region as well as the left hypochondrium; moreover, rectal examination showed that the prostate was boggy and tender.

A rare case of bleeding disorder: Glanzmann's thrombasthenia.

Background: Glanzmann's thrombasthenia (GT) is a rare bleeding disorder, which is characterized by a lack of platelet aggregation. It is characterized by qualitative or quantitative abnormalities of the platelet membrane glycoprotein IIb/IIIa. Physiologically, this platelet receptor normally binds several adhesive plasma proteins, and this facilitates attachment and aggregation of platelets to ensure thrombus formation at sites of vascular injury.

About 5% of patients with chronic liver disease develop massive refractory ascites. These patients cease to respond to diuretic therapy and may develop prerenal azotemia. There is a small but definite role for the peritoneo-venous shunt in these patients.
