Background And Objectives: The population surrounding an urban federally qualified health center (FQHC) in Philadelphia has poorer health than Philadelphia overall. Community residents identified aerobics and dance classes as very important services or programs that an FQHC might provide. We sought to measure the impact of participation in a resident physician-led, patient-centered fitness and nutrition class on participants' attitudes, knowledge, and self-efficacy regarding their health.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: End-stage lung disease patients who require a thoracic artificial lung (TAL) must be extubated and rehabilitated prior to lung transplantation. The purpose of this study is to evaluate hemodynamics and TAL function under simulated rest and exercise conditions in normal and pulmonary hypertension sheep models.
Methods: The TAL, the MC3 Biolung (MC3, Inc, Ann Arbor, MI), was attached between the pulmonary artery and left atrium in nine normal sheep and eight sheep with chronic pulmonary hypertension.
In this work we examine the aggregation behavior of ethoxylated copolymer surfactants in 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane in the presence of water, and the ability of such aggregates to uptake a model biomolecule. Our approach consists of developing a rational framework for understanding the behavior of interfacially active species at the HFA134a-water (HFA134a|W) interface using a combination of in situ high-pressure tensiometry, spectroscopy, and small-angle neutron scattering (SANS). The optimum hydrophilic-to-HFA-philic balance (HFB) for the ethylene oxide-propylene oxide-ethylene oxide (EOnPO∼43EOn, where subscripts indicate the number of repeat units) surfactant series at the HFA134a|W interface was determined at 298 K and saturation pressure of the propellant (under pressure).
