Mastocytosis is a heterogeneous group of disorders, characterized by accumulation of clonal mast cells which can infiltrate several organs, most often spine (70%). The pathogenesis of mastocytosis bone disease is poorly understood. The main aim of the study was to investigate whether neoplastic mast cells may be the source of sclerostin and whether there is an association between sclerostin and selected bone remodeling markers with mastocytosis related bone disease.

Scope: The emergence of post-COVID-19 condition (PCC) after SARS-CoV-2 infection underscores the critical need for preparedness in addressing future post-acute infection syndromes (PAIS), particularly those linked to epidemic outbreaks. The lack of standardized clinical and epidemiological data during the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly hindered timely diagnosis and effective treatment of PCC, highlighting the necessity of pre-emptively standardizing data collection in clinical studies to better define and manage future PAIS. In response, the Cohort Coordination Board, a consortium of European-funded COVID-19 research projects, has reviewed data from PCC studies conducted by its members.

Purpose: Although the end of COVID-19 as a public health emergency was declared on May 2023, still new cases of the infection are reported and the risk remains of new variants emerging that may cause new surges in cases and deaths. While clinical symptoms have been rapidly defined worldwide, the basic body responses and pathogenetic mechanisms acting in patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection over time until recovery or death require further investigation. The understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying the development and course of the disease is essential in designing effective preventive and therapeutic approaches, and ultimately reducing mortality and disease spreading.
