Structural inequality modifies midlife outcomes of a multisystemic early childhood program.

Introduction: The role of structural inequalities in the long-term benefits of early childhood programs has not been assessed. Previous findings in the Chicago Longitudinal Study, an early childhood cohort investigation with low-income families, indicate that Child-Parent Center (CPC) participation beginning in preschool was associated with a variety of positive health behaviors. In this secondary analysis, we assessed if structural inequalities (neighborhood poverty, history of discrimination) modified the magnitude of associations between CPC and health and education outcomes (cardiovascular health, body mass index, educational attainment) 30 years later.

This systematic review aims to evaluate the current evidence regarding safety and efficacy of magnetic sphincter augmentation (MSA) for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG). Conversion to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) carries the risk of surgical and metabolic complications and may be contraindicated in patients with normalized or near-normalized body mass index. Open-bore MRI Scanner Assessment of Epicardial Adipose Tissue after Bariatric Surgery: A Pilot Study.

Background: The recognition of epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) as a cardiac risk factor has increased the interest in strategies that target cardiac adipose tissue.

Aim: The effect of bariatric and metabolic surgery (BMS)-induced weight loss on EAT volume was evaluated in this study.

Methods: Fifteen bariatric patients, with (MS) or without (wMS) Metabolic Syndrome, underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using an open-bore scanner to assess EAT volume, visceral adipose tissue (VAT) thickness, and other cardiac morpho-functional parameters at baseline and 12 months after BMS.

The EPICOVID19-BS study: a web-based epidemiological survey in bariatric patients.

Purpose: To assess the occurrence and severity of SARS-CoV-2 infection/COVID-19, frequency of symptoms, clinical manifestations and behaviours in a sample of patients undergoing bariatric surgery (BS).

Methods: The EPICOVID19-BS is an observational cross-sectional study conducted in Italy during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic (September 2021-February 2022). Patients with severe/extreme obesity undergoing BS were asked to complete an online multiple-choice questionnaire and to provide additional clinical information and blood biochemistry.

The Appa Health App for Youth Mental Health: Development and Usability Study.

Background: Demand for adolescent mental health services has surged in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, and traditional models of care entailing in-person services with licensed mental health providers are inadequate to meet demand. However, research has shown that with proper training and supervision mentors can work with youth with mental health challenges like depression and anxiety and can even support the use of evidence-based strategies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). In our increasingly connected world, youth mentors can meet with young people on a web-based platform at their convenience, reducing barriers to care.
