Objectives: Robotic-assisted mitral valve repair (MVr) is a well-established procedure for management of degenerative mitral valve disease. Limited data regarding concomitant robotic-assisted tricuspid valve repair (TVr) is available. This review investigates prevalence and outcomes of concomitant robotic-assisted mitral and tricuspid valve repair.

A propensity-matched analysis of cardiac operation in patients with and without cardiac amyloidosis.

Objective: There are limited data on the outcome of routine cardiac operations in patients with cardiac amyloidosis. This study studied the impact of amyloidosis on early and late results of cardiac operations.

Methods: This was a retrospective, propensity-matched, case-control study of patients with cardiac amyloidosis undergoing cardiac surgery.

Neonatal systemic gene therapy restores cardiorespiratory function in a rat model of Pompe disease.

Absence of functional acid-α-glucosidase (GAA) leads to early-onset Pompe disease with cardiorespiratory and neuromuscular failure. A novel Pompe rat model ( ) was used to test the hypothesis that neonatal gene therapy with adeno-associated virus serotype 9 (AAV9) restores cardiorespiratory neuromuscular function across the lifespan. Temporal vein administration of AAV9-DES-GAA or sham (saline) injection was done on post-natal day 1; rats were studied at 6-12 months old.

Importance of reference group selection in the evaluation of cancer incidence.

Elevated cancer incidence has been reported among World Trade Center (WTC)-exposed responders, with some incidence rate ratios (IRRs) varying over time. This study describes the influence that different reference populations have on relative cancer incidence and temporal trends. Participants from the WTC Combined Rescue/Recovery Cohort (n = 65,691) were observed between 1/1/2002 and 12/31/2015 using data obtained from 13 state cancer registries.

However, managing comorbid conditions, particularly mental illness, presents significant challenges for cancer treatment. This study systematically reviews and meta-analyses the impact of having a pre-existing mental illness on breast cancer treatment utilisation, focusing on specific treatments and comparing different mental illnesses.
