Gate voltages take full advantage of 2D systems, making it possible to explore novel states of matter by controlling their electron concentration or applying perpendicular electric fields. Here, we study the electronic properties of small-angle twisted bilayer MoS under a strong electric field. We show that transport across one of its constituent layers can be effectively regarded as a two-dimensional electron gas under a nanoscale potential.

Background: Recent analysis of the human proteome via proteogenomics and ribosome profiling of the transcriptome revealed the existence of thousands of previously unannotated microprotein-coding small open reading frames (smORFs). Most functional microproteins were chosen for characterization because of their evolutionary conservation. However, one example of a non-conserved immunomodulatory microprotein in mice suggests that strict sequence conservation misses some intriguing microproteins.

Carcinogen-induced mutations are thought near-random, with rare cancer-driver mutations underlying clonal expansion. Using high-fidelity Duplex Sequencing to reach a mutation frequency sensitivity of 4×10 per nt, we report that sun exposure creates pervasive mutations at sites with ∼100-fold UV-sensitivity in RNA-processing gene promoters - cyclobutane pyrimidine dimer (CPD) hyperhotspots - and these mutations have a mini-driver clonal expansion phenotype. Numerically, human skin harbored 10-fold more genuine mutations than previously reported, with neonatal skin containing 90,000 per cell; UV signature mutations increased 8,000-fold in sun-exposed skin, averaging 3×10 per nt.

This study aimed to evaluate several fibrous feed ingredients as potential substitutes for oat hulls (OH), assessing their efficacy in providing structural integrity to broiler feeds. A total of 4,160 day-old male Ross-308 broilers were allocated to eight dietary treatments, including a control group (CON) without additional fiber supplementation and 7 diets where 3% of the wheat content was replaced by either OH, soy hulls (SH), beet pulp (BP), carob bean (CB), wheat straw (WS), rice hulls (RH), or wheat bran (WB). The experimental design followed a complete randomized block design with 10 pens per treatment and 52 birds each.
