A novel, highly stereoselective gold-catalyzed spirocyclization of 2-benzyl-3-alkynyl chromone with nitrone is described. This cascade reaction involves gold-catalyzed cycloisomerization, nitrone-olefin [3 + 2]-annulation, alkene oxidation, and rearrangement for the formation of spirocyclic products. Interestingly, the isoxazolidine ring generated from [3 + 2]-annulation donates oxygen to alkene to generate a new pyran-3(4)-one and azetidine ring for dispiro-benzofuran formation upon heating.

Catalyst-free synthesis of 3(2)-furanone derivatives has been achieved from metal-free cross-coupling of α-diazo ester and α-aryldiazo ketones. This reaction sequence comprises a prior Wolff rearrangement of α-aryldiazo ketones to 2-arylketenes, which are trapped with α-diazo esters to form cyclopropanones before undergoing oxa-Nazarov cyclization.

Gold-catalyzed stereoselective synthesis of spirocyclopropyl oxindoles from diazooxindoles and 1,2,4-substituted dienes is described. The aim of this work is to report a novel rearrangement of these spirocyclopropyl oxindoles with a gold catalyst to yield 3-(cyclopenta-1,3-dien-1-ylmethyl)oxindoles. Our experimental data exclude a reversible process in the gold-catalyzed cyclopropanation.

Gold-catalyzed oxidations of propargyl alcohols with nitrones by using a P(tBu) (o-biphenyl)Au catalyst, afforded bicyclic annulation products from the Mannich reactions of gold enolates. The same reactions of propargyl amines with nitrones by using the same gold catalyst gave distinct oxoarylation products. Our DFT calculations indicate that oxidation of propargyl alcohols with nitrones by using electron-rich gold catalysts lead only to gold carbenes, which can generate gold enolates or oxoarylation intermediates with enolate species having a barrier smaller than that of oxoarylation species.

In the present study a series of 4-methyl-2-aryl-5-(2-aryl/benzyl thiazol-4-yl) oxazole (4a-v) have been synthesized and evaluated for their preliminary antitubercular, antimicrobial and cytotoxicity activity. Among all the synthesized compounds, 4v reported comparable activity against dormant M. tuberculosis HRa and M.
