Background & Aims: Phase angle (PhA) is a biomarker derived from raw bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) values: resistance (R) and reactance (Xc). PhA reflects cellular membrane integrity and, as a result, has been considered a marker of fluid distribution, making it a potential prognostic indicator. A growing body of research demonstrates independent associations between PhA and muscle strength, mass, and composition.

Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to explore how different components of the SARC-F questionnaire relate to muscle parameters in cancer patients, particularly focusing on muscle functionality and composition using CT scans.
  • The research involved 128 cancer patients, analyzing skeletal muscle characteristics at various anatomical landmarks, revealing that higher SARC-F scores (indicating poorer muscle status) corresponded with lower muscle radiodensity measurements.
  • Results indicated significant associations between specific difficulties (like walking and climbing stairs) and lower muscle quality, suggesting that poor muscle composition increases the risk of sarcopenia among these individuals.

Leishmaniasis results in a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations, ranging from skin lesions at the site of infection to disseminated lesions in internal organs, such as the spleen and liver. While the ability of -infected host cells to migrate may be important to lesion distribution and parasite dissemination, the underlying mechanisms and the accompanying role of host cells remain poorly understood. Previously published work has shown that infection inhibits macrophage migration in a 2-dimensional (2D) environment by altering actin dynamics and impairing the expression of proteins involved in plasma membrane-extracellular matrix interactions.

Infant feeding practices impact children's nutritional and health status, influencing growth and development. This study aimed to analyse the evolution of infant feeding practices from 9 to 24 months of age, considering infant and young child feeding (IYCF) indicators and food processing. The infant feeding practices in children from the Brazilian site of the MAL-ED study were evaluated at 9 (n = 193), 15 (n = 182) and 24 months (n = 164) using 24-h dietary recalls.

Background: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) have excellent anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties and are extensively used to treat post-traumatic or surgical musculoskeletal pain. Although an extensive literature exists on the administration of NSAID on animal bone healing, no systematic review and meta-analysis of animal studies that investigate the effect of NSAID administration on bone fracture healing. Objective of this study is to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to estimate the effect of NSAIDs administration on bone healing biomechanical and histomorphometric measurements in different animal models after bone fracture surgery.
