External Quilting: New Technique to Avoid Haematoma in Gynaecomastia Surgery.

Background: Haematoma after gynaecomastia surgery is the most common early complication. It may necessitate a return to the theatre and cause increased infection risk, poor wound or delayed healing, and abnormal scar. Strategies to avoid haematoma range from perioperative blood pressure control to the use of tranexamic acid and compressive dressings.

Adult pertussis is hazardous for the newborn.

We report 4 cases involving the likely transmission of pertussis from parents to newborns in a hospital setting. The adoption of proper infection control measures and targeted screening of parents may reduce the potential for such transmission.

Pulse transit time by R-wave-gated infrared photoplethysmography: review of the literature and personal experience.

Objective: Pulse transit time (PTT) is the time it takes a pulse wave to travel between two arterial sites. A rela tively short PTT is observed with high blood pressure (BP), aging, arteriosclerosis and diabetes mellitus. Most methods used for measuring the PTT are cumbersome and expensive.

Oral health status in Greek children and teenagers, with disabilities.

Nowadays there is a sharp increase of population with disabilities. The aim of this investigation was a) to survey the dental health status, estimate the treatment requirements of children and adolescents with cerebral palsy, mental retardation and visual disorders and b) to compare the oral health status of these groups of individuals. The investigation entailed the clinical examination of 170 individuals, between 6 and 15 years old, who were attending four special schools in Athens, Greece.
