Background: Surveillance cultures to identify patients colonized with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is recommended at pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) admission but doesn't capture other methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus and is resource intensive. We determined the prevalence and identified nasal microbiome predictors for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus colonization at the time of PICU admission.

Study Design: A prospective cohort study was performed in a 20-bed pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) between 2020-2021.

The RNA editing enzyme adenosine deaminase acting on RNA 1 (ADAR1) is essential for correct functioning of innate immune responses. The ADAR1p110 isoform is mainly nuclear and ADAR1p150, which is interferon (IFN) inducible, is predominately cytoplasmic. Using three different methods - co-immunoprecipitation (co-IP) of endogenous ADAR1, Strep-tag co-IP and BioID with individual ADAR1 isoforms - a comprehensive interactome was generated during both homeostasis and the IFN response.

Background And Aims: Adequacy of Anaesthesia (AoA) and CONOX are combined monitors that assess levels of anaesthesia and analgesia and give a comprehensive score. No studies have measured and compared the total consumption of inhaled anaesthetic agents while using these monitors. We designed a study to compare AoA and CONOX in terms of sevoflurane usage, fentanyl usage and recovery from the effects of anaesthesia.

Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed weight gain patterns and pregnancy outcomes among overweight and obese mothers by analyzing data from 1,352 women over the span of a year.
  • Findings showed that poor weight gain was linked to increased instances of low birth weight, while excess weight gain in women with normal BMI was associated with pre-eclampsia.
  • Overweight and obese mothers had a 2.1 times higher risk of developing gestational diabetes and a 1.6 times higher chance of needing a cesarean section, highlighting the need for education on healthy weight gain during pregnancy.
