Relative humidity (RH) is measured in vivaria with a broad range to accommodate seasonal fluctuations. It is assumed that measurements in the room (macroenvironment) reflect those in the cage (microenvironment). However, there is limited data comparing RH in the macroenvironment to the microenvironment and how the mice may be affected by variations in RH that fall within husbandry recommendations.

Article Synopsis
  • Van der Waals (vdW) moirés can be manipulated to alter electronic properties through a technique that uses heterostrain control in devices.
  • By applying strain to a graphene layer over a hexagonal boron nitride substrate, researchers can change the shape and size of the moiré patterns.
  • This leads to observable changes in electronic behavior, such as altered resistance peaks, and reveals complex electronic structures that enhance the variety of moiré lattices that can be studied beyond typical twisting methods.

Background: People with cystic fibrosis carrying two nonsense alleles lack CFTR-specific treatment. Growing evidence supports the hypothesis that nonsense mutation identity affects therapeutic response, calling for mutation-specific CF models. We describe a novel W1282X mouse model and compare it to an existing G542X mouse.

Light is a key factor influencing the welfare of laboratory rodents, but little is known about their optimal lighting condition. It i common knowledge that rats prefer dim light, so bright light is mitigated with red-tinted shelters or cages, which alter both the color and intensity of light. Because both aspects are altered, the contribution of each feature to rodent preference is unknown.

The health status of Hungary's population is unfavorable, with significant differences in health indicators not only compared to the EU15 but also to the Visegrad countries. Unfavorable health indicators can be disproportionate and particularly affect vulnerable groups, such as people with disabilities. In this study, we set out to compare the health behavior of disabled youth and youth with typical development in Hungary.
