Modulating drift dynamics of circle swimmers by periodic potentials.

We propose a method to modulate the drifting motion of overdamped circle swimmers in steady fluid flows by means of static sinusoidal potentials. Using Langevin formalism, we study drift velocity as a function of potential strength and wavelength with and without diffusional motion. Drift velocity is essentially quantized without diffusion, but in the presence of noise, the displacement per cycle has a continuous range.

The culture change movement aims to create a more home-like environment in long-term care settings, promote person-centered care, and support the well-being of staff and residents. One feature of Culture Change is the Universal Worker (UW) model where direct care workers (DCWs) are responsible for housekeeping, laundry, and activities in addition to administering medication and personal support. The longitudinal approach in the ethnographic study on which this paper is based compares data collected from one assisted living across three NIA-supported research grants.

In view of a growing number of terrorist attacks, as well as mass casualty events including natural disasters, aviation accidents, disasters in land traffic, construction disasters and others, emergency response services operating on the sites of such mass events require a set of rapid, efficient and well-coordinated methods of operation. As a result of the increasing migration of people for tourism, business and settlement purposes, it frequently happens that the emergency response resources and infrastructure in the countries where mass casualty events occur are insufficient for the identification of victims who may be citizens of multiple countries. Coordinated actions by international Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) teams using Interpol's standardised DVI procedures may be a good solution ensuring efficient and reliable identification of local and international disaster victims.

Purpose: This article explores experiences of older adults attending an Adult Day Service (ADS) center. We focus on semiotics, which is ADS clients' use of symbols to communicate with others and to assert their personal and social identities. We refer to the ADS as a semiosphere-a term that refers to the dense, symbolically mediated interactions among this community.
