Hydroxyacetone (HA) is an atmospheric oxidation product of isoprene and other organic precursors that can form brown carbon (BrC). Measured bulk aqueous-phase reaction rates of HA with ammonium sulfate, methylamine, and glycine suggest that these reactions cannot compete with aqueous-phase hydroxyl radical oxidation. In cloud chamber photooxidation experiments with either gaseous or particulate HA in the presence of the same N-containing species, BrC formation was minor, with similar mass absorption coefficients at 365 nm (<0.

Article Synopsis
  • Multidrug-resistant organisms (MDRO) are a major public health concern, and understanding their genomic characteristics is vital for monitoring and controlling infections.
  • This study focuses on the use of long-read whole-genome sequencing (WGS) to analyze the molecular profiles of 356 MDRO isolates, including various bacteria such as Klebsiella pneumoniae and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
  • Results showed that long-read sequencing provides comparable molecular data to short-read sequencing, with high consistency in multi-locus sequence typing (wgMLST) profiles, though some differences were noted in Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Article Synopsis
  • Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is unexplained in 20% of patients, and this study investigates the use of massively parallel sequencing (MPS) as a diagnostic tool for these cases.
  • The study found that in 340 participants, a genetic diagnosis was identified in 17% of cases, leading to clinical consequences in 73% of those diagnosed.
  • Barriers to implementation of genetic testing included genetic illiteracy among nephrologists, difficulties in test selection, and lack of time, highlighting the need for better education in genetics.

Little is known about the naturalistic course of posttraumatic cognitions (PTCs) after exposure to a potentially traumatic event (PTE) in children and adolescents. Moreover, previous studies on the longitudinal associations of PTCs with internalising symptoms yielded mixed results. To explore the naturalistic courses and longitudinal associations of dysfunctional PTCs and functional PTCs with posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS), depression, and anxiety.

Article Synopsis
  • A significant rise in multidrug-resistant microorganisms (MDRO) was noted following the transfer of Ukrainian patients to hospitals, with various resistant strains identified, including carbapenem-resistant bacteria.
  • Testing for antimicrobial susceptibility showed low efficacy rates for several last-resort antibiotics, highlighting severe resistance issues among these pathogens.
  • Factors influencing cefiderocol susceptibility results include testing methods and standards used, making understanding resistance patterns crucial for treating patients suspected of Gram-negative infections with recent hospitalizations in Ukraine.
