The paper presents analysis of a study of the polarized component of the reflectance factor (Rq) and the degree of polarization (P) of wheat and maize crops depending on the wavelength. Registration of polarization characteristics was carried out in the field from the elevated work platform at heights of 10 to 18 m in June and July. Measurements were performed using a double-beam spectrophotometer with a polarized light filter attachment, within the spectral range from 400 to 820-nm.

The dynamics of the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and the total aboveground phytomass of agrocenosis proved to be qualitatively similar. An analysis performed using the mathematical model and taking into account air temperature showed the possibility of making and refining prognosis of crop yield.

An optical remote assay for biological production of crops in the field during the vegetation period is proposed. Our calculations demonstrate a good correlation between the S(t) value and crop yield (in the range from 0.85 to 0.
