Growth hormone (GH) transgenic fish often exhibit remarkable transformations in growth rate and other phenotypes relative to wild-type. Internal exposure of firefighting instructors to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) during live fire training.

Firefighting instructors in live fire training are inevitably exposed to emissions containing, carcinogenic PAH. The study investigated PAH uptake in a group of firefighting instructors during short-term exposure in live fire training by urinary biomonitoring. Six firefighting instructors (non-smokers) completed five 2 h-training sessions each in a carbonaceous-fired simulation unit using self-containing breathing apparatuses (SCBA).

We explored tissue concentrations of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), chlorinated pesticides, and relevant organochlorines and fish health in the following adult wild fish in the St. Clair River Area of Concern (Ontario, Canada): shorthead redhorse (Moxostoma macrolepidotum), yellow perch (Perca flavescens), and emerald shiner (Notropis atherinoides). We collected adult fish from sites within the river's industrial zone (Stag Island), a downstream site adjacent to Walpole Island (Chenal Écarte), and an upstream reference site in Lake Huron in 2002/2003 and 2014.

A single clonal lineage of transmissible cancer identified in two marine mussel species in South America and Europe.

Transmissible cancers, in which cancer cells themselves act as an infectious agent, have been identified in Tasmanian devils, dogs, and four bivalves. We investigated a disseminated neoplasia affecting geographically distant populations of two species of mussels ( in South America and in Europe). Sequencing alleles from four loci (two nuclear and two mitochondrial) provided evidence of transmissible cancer in both species.
