Visual perception of X-radiation is a well-documented, but poorly understood phenomenon. Scotopic rod cells and rhodopsin have been implicated in visual responses to X-rays, however, some evidence suggests that X-rays excite the retina via a different mechanism than visible light. While rhodopsin's role in X-ray perception is unclear, the possibility that it could function as an X-ray receptor has led to speculation that it could act as a transgenically expressed X-ray receptor.

Is the Invisibility of Dementia a Super-Power or a Curse? A Reflection on the SUNshiners' Questionnaire into the Public Understanding of Dementia as an Invisible Disability: A User-Led Research Project.

The SUNshiners group includes people in the early stages of dementia with an interest in dementia activism and research. The group found that despite the growing awareness of invisible disabilities, there is very limited research into the pros and cons of the invisibility of dementia. Our paper explores the SUNshiners research which stemmed from varied individual experiences of disclosing diagnoses.

Migration and infant immunization timeliness in New Zealand: Evidence from the Growing Up in New Zealand study.

Background: Migration has been recognized as an important determinant of child health outcomes including childhood vaccination status. This paper aims to examine the association between parental migration status and a less studied aspect of child immunization outcomes, namely timeliness, within the context of New Zealand (NZ), a country characterized by a substantial proportion of its resident population born overseas. Additionally, the study explored the impact of residential duration on children's immunization timeliness.

Establishing a clinical informatics umbilical cord: lessons learned in launching infrastructure to support dyadic mother/infant primary care.

The Multimodal Maternal Infant Perinatal Outpatient Delivery System (MOMI PODS) was developed to facilitate the pregnancy to postpartum primary care transition, particularly for individuals at risk for severe maternal morbidity, via a unique multidisciplinary model of mother/infant dyadic primary care. Specialized clinical informatics platforms are critical to ensuring the feasibility and scalability of MOMI PODS and a smooth perinatal transition into longitudinal postpartum primary care. In this manuscript, we describe the MOMI PODS transition and management clinical informatics platforms developed to facilitate MOMI PODS referrals, scheduling, evidence-based multidisciplinary care, and program evaluation.
