Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to determine if the McGrath video laryngoscope, used as the first option for tracheal intubation, improves ease of intubation and reduces complications compared to the traditional Macintosh laryngoscope.
  • It's conducted as a multicenter trial involving 35 anesthesiologists across several hospitals, tracking outcomes before and after implementation of the video laryngoscope.
  • The study has ethical approval, requires informed consent from participants, and intends to publish its findings in a peer-reviewed journal and present at scientific conferences.

The blood enzyme glutamate-oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT) has been postulated as an effective therapeutic to protect the brain during stroke. To demonstrate its potential clinical utility, a new human recombinant form of GOT (rGOT) was produced for medical use. We tested the pharmacokinetics and evaluated the protective efficacy of rGOT in rodent and non-human primate models that reflected clinical stroke conditions.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the role of the Pyk2 gene in obesity among children and adolescents, noting its previously unclear involvement in energy balance-related diseases.
  • - Researchers measured mRNA expression levels of Pyk2 in 130 Caucasian subjects, split into two groups based on Body Mass Index (BMI), and found higher expression levels in those with obesity.
  • - The results revealed a positive correlation between Pyk2 expression levels and various obesity-related metrics (like weight, fat mass, and blood pressure), suggesting that Pyk2 may be a potential predictor for developing obesity.

Introduction: Linezolid is a broadly used antibiotic to treat complicated infections caused by gram-positive bacteria. Therapeutic drug monitoring of linezolid concentrations is recommended to maximise its efficacy and safety, mainly haematological toxicity. Different pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic targets have been proposed to improve linezolid exposure: the ratio of the area under the concentration-time curve during a 24-hour period to minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) between 80 and 120; percentage of time that the drug concentration remains above the MIC during a dosing interval greater than 85% and the trough concentration between 2 and 7 mg/L.

The primary objective of this study was to conduct a cost-utility analysis of proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitors in real-world, comparing their use with standard care for managing cardiovascular disease. A multicenter prospective study was conducted across 12 Spanish hospitals from May 2020 to April 2022, involving 158 patients with hypercholesterolemia or atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. This study assessed health-related quality of life (QoL) using the EQ-5D-3L questionnaire.
