Preparation and physicochemical properties of liposome-incorporated tetracycline are described. Comparison of the effects of tetracycline hydrochloride in free and liposome-incorporated forms on enzymatic functions of the liver showed that immobilization of the antibiotic into liposomes protects liver cells from functional disturbances.

Sera of Burkholderia pseudomallei-infected golden hamsters, white mice, guinea pigs and white rats were studied. Immunochemical analysis revealed presence of antibodies against antigens 2, 3, 6, d, and g with significant predominance of antibodies to antigens 6 and d. Antigen d was detected irrespectively to strain used for experimental infection and experimental animal species.

Comparative study of the efficacy of gentamicin sulfate and cefoperazone in free and liposome-entrapped forms showed that immobilization of the antibiotics in phospholipid vesicles provided a 2-fold increase of their efficacy.

A variant of the solid-phase radioimmunoassay (RIA) has been developed for the detection of specific immunoglobulins in laboratory animals infected with Pseudomonas pseudomallei. The proposed method has advantages over the indirect hemagglutination test and the enzyme immunoassay in its sensitivity and specificity. The newly developed RIA variant, based on group-specific antigens 6 + d, makes it possible to classify the strain causing the disease with the Asian or Australian serovar of P.
