Purpose: This study aims to document the experiences of the authors during a maxillofacial humanitarian mission in Angola, with a focus on assessing the challenges faced by local maxillofacial surgeons. Additionally, the study evaluates the role of internet-based tools in planning and executing such missions to enhance the efficiency and impact of future interventions.

Material And Methods: THE STUDY INVOLVED TWO PARTS: (1) An online survey conducted with maxillofacial surgeons across various regions of Angola to assess local needs, difficulties, and obstacles before the mission.

The aim of the present study was to analyze palatal marginal alveolar exostosis (PMAE) and palatal torus (PT). Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) of the maxilla in multiplanar sections and volumetric renderings were used to assess this. PT and PMAE were classified according to location and morphology.

As an international group of orthognathic surgeons, we believe the next big thing in orthognathic surgery will be a clinical and research focus on patient-oriented outcomes and improved quality of life. We expect to see advances in diagnosis and treatment planning, materials development, and patient management.
