Article Synopsis
  • - Negative pressure breathing (NPBin) is a technique that lowers pressure in the respiratory tract during inhalation, aiming to boost blood flow to the heart and counteract fluid shifts in space.
  • - This study analyzed the effects of NPBin for 25 minutes at pressure reductions of -10 to -25 cmHO, using various non-invasive measurement techniques to assess changes in circulation and respiration in healthy volunteers.
  • - Results showed that NPBin increased tidal volume and decreased respiratory rate without significantly affecting overall minute ventilation, while circulatory parameters showed increased amplitude during breathing cycles, indicating a complex interaction between respiration and circulation.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the potential benefits of using whole genome sequencing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis to improve tuberculosis case detection in high-incidence areas, as previous research has shown its effectiveness in identifying outbreaks and transmission events.* -
  • A cluster randomized controlled trial will take place in 48 rural village groups in Madagascar, comparing three intervention methods: standard care with microscopy, active case finding with PCR testing, and a novel approach that includes both PCR testing and genome sequencing.* -
  • The primary goal is to assess the number of tuberculosis cases detected per 100,000 people after one year of different interventions, aiming to enhance understanding of how genomic tracking can improve tuberculosis management in regions with high disease levels.*

Pursuing of straightforward and cost-effective methods for synthesizing high-performance anode materials for lithium-ion batteries is a topic of significant interest. This study elucidates a one-step synthesis approach for a conversion composite using glow discharge in a nickel formate solution, yielding a composite precursor comprising metallic nickel, nickel hydroxide, and basic nickel salts. Subsequent annealing of the precursor facilitated the formation of the Ni@NiO composite, exhibiting exceptional electrochemical properties as anode material in Li-ion batteries: a capacity of approximately 1000 mAh g, cyclic stability exceeding 100 cycles, and favorable rate performance (200 mAh g at 10 A g).

Negative pressure breathing is breathing with decreased pressure in the respiratory tract without lowering pressure acting on the torso. We lowered air pressure only during inspiration (NPBin). NPBin, used to increase venous return to the heart, is considered a countermeasure against redistribution of body fluids toward the head during spaceflight.

The hydrogenation of CO to CH has gained considerable interest in terms of sustainable energy and environmental mitigation. In this regard, the present work aims to investigate the adsorptive concentration and CO methanation performance over CoFe and NiFe bimetallic catalysts supported on fumed alumina-silica SA96 support at 170-450 °C and under atmospheric pressure. The catalysts were prepared by wet impregnation method, subjected to calcination and further reduced with hydrogen, and their performance in CO methanation was investigated in a hydrogen-rich 2%CO-55%H-43%He gas mixture.
