Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to analyze the neonatal and maternal outcomes of routine maneuvers during breech vaginal deliveries at term through a secondary analysis of a multicenter study in France and Belgium.
  • A total of 1,163 women were compared between those who had routine maneuvers and those who did not, with similar adverse perinatal outcomes in both groups (4.5% vs 5.0%).
  • The findings suggested that routine maneuvers did not lead to increased neonatal morbidity, with factors like being a first-time mother and low birth weight being linked to adverse outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • Megacystis-microcolon-intestinal-hypoperistalsis syndrome (MMIHS) is a rare genetic disorder causing severe abdominal swelling, a small colon, and reduced movement in the intestines, often linked to mutations in the ACTG2 gene.
  • Recent findings have also identified additional mutations in other genes such as MYH11, MYLK, and a potential new gene PDCL3 that may be involved in the condition.
  • Research on five patients revealed multiple genetic variants, including a complete absence of PDCL3 expression in affected individuals, suggesting it plays an important role in the disorder due to its involvement in smooth muscle contractility.

Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to evaluate if the side (right or left) of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) influences the survival chances of newborns in intensive care.
  • Analyzed data from 506 cases showed a higher survival rate for left CDH (74%) compared to right CDH (49%), but the side alone wasn’t directly linked to increased mortality after accounting for other factors.
  • Key findings indicated that liver herniation and lung-to-head ratio are significant predictors of mortality, while the laterality of CDH did not significantly affect survival rates after adjustments.
