Cupressaceae pollen causes allergic reactions worldwide with long-lasting symptomatic periods. Currently, no cypress polcalcin is available for diagnostic purposes. With the aim to investigate the pattern of sensitization to a cypress polcalcin, a synthetic gene of Jun o 4, the Juniperus oxycedrus 4EF-hand polcalcin, was cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli.

Rhodopsin (RHO) is a light-sensitive pigment in the retina and the main prototypical protein of the G-protein-coupled receptor (GCPR) family. After receiving a light stimulus, RHO and its cofactor retinylidene undergo a series of structural changes that initiate an intricate transduction mechanism. Along with RHO, other partner proteins play key roles in the signaling pathway.

Peach and apricot can cause allergic reactions with symptoms ranging from mild to very severe, including anaphylaxis. Sometimes subjects allergic to fruits of the Prunus genus have been reported to be also allergic to rubber latex products. The objective of this study is the characterization of a newly identified peach and apricot protein showing similarities with the allergens Hev b 5 from rubber latex and Man e 5 from manioc.

Risk Score for the Development of Veno-Occlusive Disease after Allogeneic Hematopoietic Cell Transplant.

A risk score identifying patients at high risk for veno-occlusive disease (VOD) may aid efforts to study preventive strategies for this uncommon complication of hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT). Patients receiving a first allogeneic HCT between 2008 and 2013 as reported to the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (N = 13,097) were randomly divided into training and validation sets. Independent prognostic factors for development of VOD by day +100 after HCT were identified with a multivariate logistic regression model.
