Emerging studies have suggested the association of ambient air pollution with worse cognitive function; however, causal evidence remains scarce. We aimed to estimate the effect of particulate matter (PM) exposure on overall and domain-specific cognitive function. A total of 14,205 participants aged 45 years and above were drawn from the 2015 wave of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS).

Broadband and low-cross talk mode multiplexer based on subwavelength-assisted phase matching.

Integrated mode multiplexers are key components in photonic networks and are crucial to achieving higher data density. Asymmetric directional couplers represent one of the most common multiplexing architectures, owing to their low losses and scalability, but further bandwidth enhancements are sought after. In this Letter, we demonstrate a multiplexer/demultiplexer link based on asymmetric directional couplers assisted by subwavelength grating metamaterials.

Small Bowel Villous Atrophy in a Young Patient: A Challenging Diagnosis.

Common variable immunodeficiency enteropathy is a sprue-like disease, which may manifest as a severe malabsorption syndrome with nutritional deficits and cachexia. The authors report a case of a 33-year-old Afghan man, who presented to the emergency department due to chronic watery diarrhea and severe malnourishment. He had been previously misdiagnosed with celiac disease in his early adulthood; however, this was based on inconclusive findings.

Metastatic pituitary neuroendocrine neoplasms: A case report of a malignant prolactinoma.

We report a rare clinical case of a malignant prolactinoma in which the exponential increase of prolactin levels with minimal tumor growth and no response to treatment led to diagnosis of abdominal, thoracic, and vertebral metastases.

Anxiety and depression in patients with giant cell arteritis.

Objectives: To compare the prevalence of anxiety and depression in patients with GCA with that in the general population, using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), and to identify independent predictors of these psychiatric manifestations in patients with GCA.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study including all patients diagnosed with GCA followed during 1 year in a vasculitis outpatient clinic. The HADS and 36-item Short Form (SF-36) questionnaires were prospectively collected.
