Objective: This study aimed to evaluate adipose tissue of lipedema patients.
Methods: Gluteo-femoral (affected area) and interscapular (nonaffected area) adipose tissue from 10 lean patients affected by lipedema stage 1 to 2 was studied and compared with tissue from 10 patients with obesity and 12 lean patients.
Results: The main features were alterations of capillaries with wall thickening (p ≤ 0.
This study investigates the functionalization of a poplar biochar (PB), obtained by high-temperature pyrolysis, under oxidative conditions typically used in organic synthesis. In particular, concentrated nitric acid, a sulfonitric mixture and a piranha mixture were applied as oxidants at different temperatures and reaction times. In order to assess the outcome of the reaction conditions on the characteristics of the resultant products, these were characterized by a combination of imaging (SEM), spectroscopic (ATR-FTIR, RAMAN) and FFC-NMR relaxometric techniques.

However, FGF-21 levels are paradoxically higher in obesity, indicating a hormone-resistant state that may hinder the benefits of SGLT2i.
Methods: To define if a different energy status influences the response to SGLT2i, we evaluated the effects of dapagliflozin administration on nine-week-old C57BL/6J wild-type and B6.

Dear Editor, We have read with interest the recently published paper by Beronja et al. reporting the clinical outcomes in a group of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 being current smokers or not and concluding that a history of cigarette smoking (past or active) is an independent factor for negative prognosis in COVID-19 patients..

The pineal gland hormone melatonin regulates GH secretion in many mammals, including humans, although its role in modulating GH secretion has been debated. We describe the case of a young woman chronically taking melatonin for sleep disturbances, referring to her general practitioner for flushing that appeared just after starting melatonin intake.
