Nano-tubular cellulose for bioprocess technology development.

Delignified cellulosic material has shown a significant promotional effect on the alcoholic fermentation as yeast immobilization support. However, its potential for further biotechnological development is unexploited. This study reports the characterization of this tubular/porous cellulosic material, which was done by SEM, porosimetry and X-ray powder diffractometry.

Seal properties of TachoSil: in vitro hemodynamic measurements.

Fibrin glue products and collagen patches are frequently used as a sealing product, preventing surgical side bleedings. This is especially true in the field of cardiovascular surgery, where increasing numbers of patients are being operated with antiplatelet and anticoagulation therapy. The aim of this report was, in an in vitro hemodynamic setting, to examine the sealant properties of the TachoSil (Nycomed Pharma, Linz, Austria) patch.

Posttraumatic osteotomies of the jaws.

The increase in road traffic accidents as well as injuries caused by violence has resulted in an increase of fractures of the facial bones. These fractures are not always treated properly. Sometimes they are not treated at all because of their complexity or, more often, because of the associated, mainly neurological, injuries.

[The calcium salt of folinic acid for the treatment of deficiency anemia].

Thirty patients (20 adults and 10 children) suffering from nutritional anaemias were treated with folinic acid for 15 days per os at a dosage of 4-8 mg daily. For each patient routine laboratory tests, folic acid assays in the serum and in the erythrocytes have carried out and the clinical parameters have been recorded at the beginning and at the end of the treatment. The results showed statistically significant increase in the number of red cells per cmm, in folic acid content both in the serum and in the erythrocytes; at the same time a decrease of mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration (MCHC) and mean corpuscular haemoglobin (MCH) was observed.
