Article Synopsis
  • Aberrant embryo implantation and placentation can lead to serious pregnancy complications like preeclampsia, and current risk identification methods are not very accurate.
  • The ExPECT study aims to validate a cell-free DNA methylation strategy to diagnose preeclampsia early and identify high-risk pregnancies by analyzing blood samples over time.
  • Results showed distinct methylation patterns between healthy and affected pregnancies, with significant differences detectable as early as 12 weeks, leading to the development of promising classification models for diagnosis and prediction.

Article Synopsis
  • 3% to 5% of cancer patients have cancer of unknown primary (CUP), making it difficult to determine the origin of their tumors.
  • A new technique called cell-free reduced representation bisulfite sequencing (cfRRBS) can analyze DNA methylation patterns from small, fragmented samples, allowing for better classification of tumors, including CUP.
  • The study showed that this method could accurately diagnose CUP in a significant number of samples, suggesting it could be a valuable tool alongside traditional cytology for cancer diagnosis.

Freemartinism is the most common congenital anomaly among sexual disorders in dairy cows. This syndrome typically occurs in different-sex twin pregnancies and causes vascular anastomoses to form with the placenta in the early stages of fetal development. The study aims to determine the effectiveness of Anti-müllerian hormone (AMH) levels in calves and heifers of different age groups for diagnostic factors and to investigate the potential consequences of different hormone levels in different age groups on some liver biochemical parameters.

In this review, we provide a comprehensive overview of the different computational tools that have been published for the deconvolution of bulk DNA methylation (DNAm) data. Here, deconvolution refers to the estimation of cell-type proportions that constitute a mixed sample. The paper reviews and compares 25 deconvolution methods (supervised, unsupervised or hybrid) developed between 2012 and 2023 and compares the strengths and limitations of each approach.
