Enriching Spiritual Care in Medical Residents Through Cultural Humility and Courage.

Introduction: While many patients desire spiritual care, it is infrequently provided by physicians. When a model of cultural humility and courage is employed, resident physicians can be introduced to the spiritual care of patients.

Methods: We developed this 90-minute, onetime session to speak directly to resident physicians about the relationships between medicine and spirituality and the nature of spiritual care.

In many species, social interactions decrease behavioral, hormonal, and neural responses to environmental stressors. While "social buffering" and its mechanisms have received considerable attention in mammals, we know less about the phenomenon in fish. The nonapeptide oxytocin regulates social behavior across vertebrates and plays an important role in social buffering in mammals.

Ticks without borders: Microbial communities of immature Neotropical tick species parasitizing migratory landbirds along northern Gulf of Mexico.

The long-distance, seasonal migrations of birds make them an effective ecological bridge for the movement of ticks. The introduction of exotic tick species to new geographical regions can lead to the emergence of novel tick-borne pathogens or the re-emergence of previously eradicated ones. This study assessed the prevalence of exotic tick species parasitizing resident, short-distance, and long-distance songbirds during spring and autumn at stopover sites in the northern Gulf of Mexico using the mitochondrial 12S rDNA gene.

Implementation of dedicated social worker coaching for emergency medicine residents - Lessons learned.

Emergency medicine training is associated with high levels of stress and burnout, which were exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic further exposed a mismatch between trainees' mental health needs and timely support services; therefore, the objective of our innovation was to create an opportunity for residents to access a social worker who could provide consistent coaching. The residency leadership team partnered with our graduate medical education (GME) office to identify a clinical social worker and professionally-trained coach to lead sessions.
