Background: Secondary endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) for the management of shunt failure may be efficacious, though it may be followed by more frequent complications (including endocrinological impairment, e.g., amenorrhea) compared to primary ETV.

Long-term growth hormone treatment in a boy with 45,X/46,X,idic(Yp) mixed gonadal dysgenesis: comparison with growth pattern of an untreated patient.

Background: Mixed gonadal dysgenesis (MGD) is a rare disorder. Short stature is a well known feature of this condition. Although growth hormone (GH) treatment has been suggested to treat growth impairment, conflicting data surround this issue.

Effectiveness of primary endoscopic incision in treatment of ectopic ureterocele associated with duplex system.

Objectives: To report our experience with the endoscopic treatment of ectopic ureterocele to demonstrate its long-term effectiveness. Endoscopic treatment is often recommended as the initial and definitive treatment in patients with ureterocele.

Methods: A total of 46 children with ectopic ureterocele in a duplex system underwent primary endoscopic incision from January 1998 to January 2006.

Prevalence of and risk factors for latex sensitization in patients with spina bifida.

Purpose: We determined the prevalence of and risk factors for latex sensitization in patients with spina bifida.

Materials And Methods: A total of 59 consecutive subjects 2 to 40 years old with spina bifida answered a questionnaire, and underwent a latex skin prick test and determination of serum IgE specific for latex by RAST CAP radioimmunoassay. We also noted the relationships of total serum IgE skin prick tests to common air and food allergens.

[Non-comparative open study of the efficacy and tolerance of cefaclor in the prevention of urinary tract infections in children].

Cefaclor has been investigated as an additional prophylactic agent in the UTI. It is active against virtually all common urinary pathogens, is well absorbed in the upper gastrointestinal tract, is well tolerated and safe. The Authors have carried out a clinical trial of the prophylactic use of cefaclor in the prevention of recurrent urinary tract infection in children.
