Corked Microcapsules Enabling Controlled Ultrasound-Mediated Protein Delivery.

While ultrasound represents a facile, portable, and noninvasive trigger for drug delivery vehicles, most reported ultrasound-triggered drug delivery vehicles predominately present "burst" release profiles that are hard to control after the initial activation stimulus. Herein, we report a submerged electrospraying technique to fabricate protein-loaded microcapsules in which silica "corks" are embedded within the microcapsule shell. Upon the application of an ultrasound trigger, the corks can be perturbed within the shell, allowing for the release of the protein payload through a phantom tissue mimic to a degree proportional to the number/time of pulses applied.

Patagonia (Argentina and Chile) harbors the highest Saccharomyces eubayanus genomic diversity and its widest predominance in natural environments. In this work, S. eubayanus was isolated for the first time from a fermentative environment.

Development and Evaluation of Tc Tricarbonyl Complexes Derived from Flutamide with Affinity for Androgen Receptor.

With the objective to develop a potential Tc radiopharmaceutical for imaging the androgen receptor (AR) in prostate cancer, four ligands bearing the same pharmacophore derived from the AR antagonist flutamide were prepared, labeled with Tc, and their structures corroborated via comparison with the corresponding stable rhenium analogs. All complexes were obtained with high radiochemical purity. Three of the complexes were highly stable, and, due to their favorable physicochemical properties, were further evaluated using AR-positive and AR-negative cells in culture.
