Diametaphyseal forearm fractures are difficult to treat because standard methods for long-bone fracture stabilization in the metaphyseal or diaphyseal regions are less effective in this transition zone. We hypothesized that there is no difference in outcomes between conservative and surgical treatment of diametaphyseal forearm fractures. This retrospective analysis included 132 patients who had undergone treatment for diametaphyseal forearm fracture between 2013 and 2020 at our institution.

Indoor spaces exhibit microbial compositions that are distinctly dissimilar from one another and from outdoor spaces. Unique in this regard, and a topic that has only recently come into focus, is the microbiome of hospitals. While the benefits of knowing exactly which microorganisms propagate how and where in hospitals are undoubtedly beneficial for preventing hospital-acquired infections, there are, to date, no standardized procedures on how to best study the hospital microbiome.

Background: Healthcare workers (HCW) are at increased risk of infection with SARS-CoV-2. Vulnerable patient populations in particular must be protected, and clinics should not become transmission hotspots to avoid delaying medical treatments independent of COVID. Because asymptomatic transmission has been described, routine screening of asymptomatic HCW would potentially be able to interrupt chains of infection through early detection.
