β-cell dysfunction in pancreatic islets, characterized as either the loss of β-cell mass or the resistance of β-cell to glucose, is the leading cause of progression to diabetes. Islet transplantation became a promising approach to replenish functional β-cell mass. However, not much known about changes in islets used for transplantation after isolation.

Prior accounts of this early-emerging norm behavior propose that children perceive conventional norms as obligations to their cultural groups and, in conforming to the norms, sacrifice their individual desires for the welfare of the group. In the current research, we investigate the hypothesis that children may actually derive happiness from adhering to conventional norms, thus aligning rather than diverging from their individual desires.

We have previously shown that SEM, with rates consistent with experimental observation, can both increase the rate of gene fixation and decrease pseudogenization, thus dramatically improving the efficacy of evolution. Here, we present a conjectural model of the origin and evolution of sex determination wherein the SEM mechanism alone is sufficient to parsimoniously trigger and guide the evolution of heteromorphic sex chromosomes from the initial homomorphic chromosome configuration, without presupposing any allele frequency differences.

What behaviors make people happy? In the current studies, we investigated 4- to 7-year-old children's (N = 148) emotion attributions for people who follow or violate a conventional norm when doing so aligns or conflicts with other psychological motivations. In Study 1, we tested whether children believe people are happier when they desire (vs. do not desire) adhering to (vs.
