Reimagining Kangaroo Care for Preterm Infants: A Novel Garment for Safe and Comfortable Bonding.

Background/objectives: Kangaroo Care (KC) has been proven to enhance physiological stability, growth, and bonding in preterm, low-birthweight infants. Despite its benefits, KC is underutilized in Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) due to challenges in managing medical equipment. This study introduces the Kangarobe™, a novel garment designed to facilitate safe, comfortable, and efficient KC for medically fragile infants in high-acuity NICUs.

A Novel Method for Administering Epinephrine during Neonatal Resuscitation.

Objective: This study aimed to determine if prefilled epinephrine syringes will reduce time to epinephrine administration compared with conventional epinephrine during standardized simulated neonatal resuscitation.

Study Design: Timely and accurate epinephrine administration during neonatal resuscitation is lifesaving in bradycardic infants. Current epinephrine preparation is inefficient and error-prone.

Clinical Study of Continuous Non-Invasive Blood Pressure Monitoring in Neonates.

The continuous monitoring of arterial blood pressure (BP) is vital for assessing and treating cardiovascular instability in a sick infant. Currently, invasive catheters are inserted into an artery to monitor critically-ill infants. Catheterization requires skill, is time consuming, prone to complications, and often painful.

Ethical issues in the conduct of research at a multidisciplinary clinic.

We describe the process our interdisciplinary clinic used to create an institutional policy regarding research participant recruitment from among our client base. We demonstrate how certain elements of the client-clinician relationship can lead to inadvertent ethical quandaries in research recruitment, including implicit coercion and fostering of "therapeutic misconception." Our internal policy deliberations focused on five central dilemmas, each requiring a careful evaluation of ethical principles.
