Highlights from the breakout session: transcriptomic approaches to the study of systemic vasculitis.

The search for targeted therapies and biomarkers for immune-mediated systemic vasculitis requires detailed understanding of molecular pathogenesis. Whilst candidate approaches have identified new opportunities for drug repurposing, they also miss novel approaches for targeting critical immunological or stromal pathways. On the other hand, bulk transcriptional profiling may fail to capture differences in cellular composition and, depending on the cell source profiled, miss important changes within inflamed vascular tissue.

Neurodevelopmental outcomes at five years in children born very preterm (24-31 weeks) exposed to opioids with or without midazolam: results from the French nationwide EPIPAGE-2 cohort study.

Background: Data on preschool neurodevelopment of preterm infants according to the duration of their neonatal exposure to opioids with/without midazolam is limited. We aimed to assess neurodevelopment outcome in children aged five years, born very preterm (24-31 weeks), according to exposure to these drugs.

Methods: Secondary analysis from the French prospective cohort study EPIPAGE-2 (Etude Epidémiologique sur les Petits Ages Gestationnels, 2011).

Implementation fidelity of a multisite maternity waiting homes programme in rural Zambia: application of the conceptual framework for implementation fidelity to a complex, hybrid-design study.

Background: Implementation fidelity measures are critical for understanding complex interventions. Though maternity waiting homes (MWHs) are recommended by the WHO and have been used to help pregnant women access health facilities for decades, a gap exists regarding fidelity studies on MWHs. To better understand intervention outcomes results, we assessed the fidelity of implementation of an improved Core MWH Model in 10 facilities in rural Zambia.

"We're not one-box issue people": Intersectional perspectives on LGBTQ+ mental health in schools: A UK qualitative study with students, staff and training providers.

There is limited intersectionality-informed, contextually diverse qualitative research on school experiences of LGBTQ+ students and links to mental health. Focusing on racialized, ethnic minority and religious/faith groups, this coproduced UK study examines how: 1) sexual and/or gender diverse students with intersecting minoritized identities experience school; 2) school environments could better support their mental health; and 3) what shapes school inclusion initiatives. In-depth interviews and focus groups were conducted with 22 staff members, 32 students (13-19 years), and nine LGBTQ+ school inclusion training providers.

Inhibiting mechanotransduction prevents scarring and yields regeneration in a large animal model.

Modulating mechanotransduction by inhibiting yes-associated protein (YAP) in mice yields wound regeneration without scarring. However, rodents are loose-skinned and fail to recapitulate key aspects of human wound repair. We sought to elucidate the effects of YAP inhibition in red Duroc pig wounds, the most human-like model of scarring.
