Characteristics, disposition, and outcomes of children hospitalized for mental health boarding at a children's hospital.

Increasingly, youth experiencing mental health crises present to acute care medical hospitals and "board" on medical units due to inpatient psychiatric bed shortages. We conducted a retrospective cohort study of children experiencing mental health boarding at a US children's hospital from October 2020 to September 2022. We examined associations between patients' characteristics and their disposition and outcomes.

Unlabelled: Introduction Disasters will continue to occur throughout the world and it is the responsibility of the government, health care systems, and communities to adequately prepare for potential catastrophic scenarios. Unfortunately, low-and-middle-income countries (LMICs) are especially vulnerable following a disaster. By understanding disaster preparedness and risk perception, interventions can be developed to improve community preparedness and avoid unnecessary mortality and morbidity following a natural disaster.

Novel heterocyclic DPP-4 inhibitors for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

Novel deazaxanthine-based DPP-4 inhibitors have been identified that are potent (IC(50) <10nM) and highly selective versus other dipeptidyl peptidases. Their synthesis and SAR are reported, along with initial efforts to improve the PK profile through decoration of the deazaxanthine core. Optimisation of compound 3a resulted in the identification of compound (S)-4i, which displayed an improved in vitro and ADME profile.

Board oversight of patient care quality in community health systems.

In hospitals and health systems, ensuring that standards for the quality of patient care are established and continuous improvement processes are in place are among the board's most fundamental responsibilities. A recent survey has examined governance oversight of patient care quality at 123 nonprofit community health systems and compared their practices with current benchmarks of good governance. The findings show that 88% of the boards have established standing committees on patient quality and safety, nearly all chief executive officers' performance expectations now include targets related to patient quality and safety, and 96% of the boards regularly receive formal written reports regarding their organizations' performance in relation to quality measures and standards.

Surgical mortality in patients with infected aortic aneurysms.

Background: Mortality in patients with infected aortic aneurysms remains high. A number of patient- and infection-specific risk factors for death have been proposed, but none is consistently predictive of poor outcomes. The purpose of this study was to examine the possible contribution of infection-related risk factors and the systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) to outcomes of patients with infected aortic aneurysms.
