Eating on the move: experiences of food insecurity and hunger during overland transit through Mexico.

Objective: To explore migrants' experiences of food insecurity during their overland transit through Mexico, using qualitative methods.

Methods: We conducted a qualitative study (May - July 2016) of 26 Central American migrants in a migrant shelter in San Luis Potosí, México. The semi structured interview explored four domains of food insecurity: 1) availability; 2) accessibility; 3) utilization (eating practices and consumption; and 4) stability (experiencing hunger).

Dynamics of endemic human coronavirus and SARS-CoV-2 in a hospital of Madrid, Spain. Retrospective study from June 2020 to July 2023.

An observational and retrospective study was carried out to analyse HCoV positivity from a multiplex PCR respiratory panel and RT-PCR for SARS-CoV-2 in respiratory samples from 1 June 2020 to 31 July 2023 at the Príncipe de Asturias University Hospital (HUPA) in Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, Spain. Out of 2802 respiratory panels, 1258 (44.8%) turned out positive.

Community perception of malaria in a vulnerable municipality in the Colombian Pacific.

Background: Malaria primarily affects populations living in poor socioeconomic conditions, with limited access to basic services, deteriorating environmental conditions, and barriers to accessing health services. Control programmes are designed without participation from the communities involved, ignoring local knowledge and sociopolitical and cultural dynamics surrounding their main health problems, which implies imposing decontextualized control measures that reduce coverage and the impact of interventions. The objective of this study was to determine the community perception of malaria in the municipality of Olaya Herrera in the Colombian Pacific.

Pseudo skin flash on VMAT in breast radiotherapy: Optimization of virtual bolus thickness and HU values.

Purpose: Optimisation strategies for volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) in most treatment planning systems for breast cancer do not account for patient positioning, breathing, or anatomical changes. To overcome this limitation, a pseudo-skin flash strategy using a virtual bolus has been proposed. Using this strategy, we determined optimal thickness and value of Hounsfield units (HU) assigned to the virtual bolus to ensure adequate CTV irradiation.

Association of vitamin D and vitamin B with cognitive impairment in elderly aged 80 years or older: a cross-sectional study.

Background: The present study aimed to assess the association of vitamin D and vitamin B with cognitive impairment in elderly people.

Methods: The data were obtained from a cross-sectional study that included individuals aged 80 years or older living in the urban and rural areas of the cities of Siderópolis and Treviso in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. In total, 165 elderly people were included in the analysis.
