Article Synopsis
  • αSMA is expressed not only in cancer-associated fibroblasts but also in certain breast cancer cells, which relates to their invasive capabilities and raises questions about its role in breast cancer pathology.
  • The study aimed to analyze the αSMA tumor score in breast cancer using digital image analysis, focusing on its effects on clinical outcomes like invasiveness and survival rates.
  • Results identified three distinct breast cancer subgroups based on αSMA expression, revealing connections between αSMA scores and clinicopathological factors such as recurrence and invasion, highlighting the need for further research in this area.

Fat grafting has gained prominence in reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, necessitating accurate assessment methods for evaluating graft volume retention. This paper reviews various techniques for assessing fat and fat grafts, including their benefits and limitations. Three-dimensional (3D) scanning offers highly accurate, non-invasive volumetric assessments with minimal interference from breathing patterns.

Due to its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and pro-healing properties, the application of cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has emerged as a new and promising therapeutic strategy in various fields of medicine, including general medicine and dentistry. In this light, the aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of a homemade plasma jet on the cellular behaviour of two important cell types involved in gingivitis, namely gingival fibroblasts (HGF-1 cell line) and macrophages (RAW 264.7 cell line), by the direct application of CAP in different experimental conditions.

Animal experimental models are ruled out by respecting the 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement) rules which governed the experimental research for decades with an increased tendency to minimize as much as it is possible any pain suffering or distress that the animals might feel. The chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) model is an alternative to other experimental models due to its superior properties compared to other animal models. The CAM is painless by itself due to the lack of innervation and has no immune cells till the 11th day of incubation.

Since breast cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in women, silicone mammary implants have been extensively employed in numerous breast reconstruction procedures. However, despite the crucial role they play, their interaction with the host's immune system and microbiome is poorly understood. Considering this, the present work investigates the immunomodulatory and bacterial mitigation potential of six textured surfaces, based on linear step-like features with various regular and irregular multiscaled arrangements, in comparison to a flat PDMS surface.
