Ecological Burden of Modern Surgery: An Analysis of Total Knee Replacement's Life Cycle.

Background: It is estimated that surgical procedures account for 20%-30% of the greenhouse gases emissions from health-care systems. Total knee replacements (TKR) are one of the most frequently performed procedures in orthopaedics. The aim of this study was to identify and quantify the environmental impacts generated by TKRs, the factors that generate the most emissions, and those that can be easily modified.

Long-term outcomes of arthroscopic Bankart repair and Hill-Sachs remplissage for bipolar bone defects.

Purpose: To evaluate long-term results after arthroscopic Bankart repair and Hill-Sachs remplissage (BHSR) in bipolar bone defects with less than 20% of glenoid bone loss (GBL) and to analyse risk factors for recurrent dislocation.

Methods: From 2009-2012, 43 patients with recurrent anterior shoulder instability were treated with BHSR. Inclusion criteria were GBL < 20% and minimum of 4-yearfollow-up.

Outcomes of secondary trapeziectomy after revision of trapeziometacarpal implants: a retrospective comparative matched study.

We evaluated secondary trapeziectomy for revision of trapeziometacarpal implants and compared this to primary trapeziectomy with a matched retrospective single centre study performed between October 2003 and February 2015. Thirty-one patients with trapeziometacarpal prosthesis failure who had a secondary trapeziectomy were matched with a primary trapeziectomy regarding sex, date of the operation and age. We evaluated function, mobility, autonomy, pain, strength, complications and shortening of the thumb on radiographs.

Free vascularized medial femoral condyle corticoperiosteal flap with non-vascularized iliac crest graft for the treatment of recalcitrant clavicle non-union.

Clavicle non-union is a challenging problem. Open reduction with internal fixation and autologous bone grafting is usually the first line treatment. In case of failure, the medial femoral condyle corticoperiosteal flap in association with a non-vascularized bone graft is one of the therapeutic options, which is well adapted to the clavicle anatomical characteristics.

Result of A1 pulley reconstruction after closed rupture of the thumb pulleys during childbirth.

Closed rupture of the thumb flexor tendon pulleys is rare. Although anatomical and biomechanical studies have exposed the roles played by the pulleys in flexor pollicis longus (FPL) function, no standardized surgical management has yet been defined, in contrast to situations where pulley reconstruction is required in the fingers. We describe a case of rupture of the three pulleys in the thumb that probably occurred after violent thumb grasp during childbirth in the absence of any other trauma.
