Introduction: Though thrombin-activatable fibrinolysis inhibitor (TAFI) may contribute to hypercoagulability during pregnancy, limited data are available on the role of TAFI in women with recurrent fetal loss.

Material/methods: We performed a case-control study aimed at evaluating any possible association between TAFI levels and early recurrent fetal loss (≥ 3, or 2 with at least one normal fetal karyotype, before the 10th week of gestation). 140 women with early recurrent fetal loss and 140 age-matched healthy controls with at least one normal pregnancy were included.

Background: Purpose of this study was to assess the effects of thermal hydrotherapy (balneokinesis) with a sulphurous water on clinical symptoms, quality of life and some functional parameters in patients with varicose veins.

Patients And Methods: 70 patients with primary or secondary symptomatic varicosis were enrolled and submitted to elastic compression therapy. Patients were then randomized to receive (50 pts, group A) or not receive (20 pts, group B) balneokinetic treatment for 12 days "on top" of elastic compression.

The aim of this study was to investigate the blood coagulation changes in three patients with homocystinuria, in baseline condition and during therapy. At baseline, antithrombin III activity and factor VII levels were reduced in all three patients; antithrombin III protein and protein C antigen were also slightly lowered in one patient, and factor X in another. beta-Thromboglobulin, a measure of platelet activation, was increased in one case.
