Introduction: The rise in multidrug-resistant bacteria challenges clinical microbiology. Tigecycline, eravacycline, and omadacycline show promise against carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales and Acinetobacter baumannii. This study evaluates their activity and resistance mechanisms.

Do Concurrent Peri-Implantitis and Periodontitis Share Their Microbiotas? A Pilot Study.

The microbial compositions from concurrent peri-implant and periodontal lesions were compared, since the results reported in the literature on the etiological relationship between these oral pathologies are contradictory. Microbial compositions from nine patients were evaluated using Illumina MiSeq sequencing of 16S rRNA gene amplicons and Principal Components Analysis. Comparisons between the use of curettes or paper points as collection methods and between bacterial composition in both pathologies were performed.

Genetic and physiological requirements for high-level sesquiterpene-production in tomato glandular trichomes.

Type-VI glandular trichomes of wild tomato PI127826 produce high levels of the sesquiterpene 7-epizingiberene and its derivatives, making the plant repellent and toxic to several pest insects and pathogens. How wild tomato trichomes achieve such high terpene production is still largely unknown. Here we show that a cross (F1) with a cultivated tomato produced only minute levels of 7-epizingiberene.

Introduction: Recent studies have revealed the presence of -acyl-homoserine lactones (AHLs) quorum sensing (QS) signals in the oral environment. Yet, their role in oral biofilm development remains scarcely investigated. The use of quorum quenching (QQ) strategies targeting AHLs has been described as efficient for the control of pathogenic biofilms.

Drip and ship and mothership models of mechanical thrombectomy result in similar outcomes in acute ischemic stroke of the anterior circulation.

Background: Stroke therapy has been transformed in recent years due to the availability of thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy (MT). Whether transferring the patient directly to a comprehensive stroke center (CSC, mothership model) is better than taking them to a primary stroke center (PSC) and then to a CSC for MT (drip and ship) is unclear but has important implications. We compared the performance of both models in a district of the Basque country, Spain.
