COVID-19 and Sickle Cell Disease in the Province of Quebec, Canada: Outcomes after Two Years of the Pandemic.

Background: Patients with sickle cell disease (SCD) are considered at higher risk of severe COVID-19 infection. However, morbidity and mortality rates are variable among countries. To date, there are no published reports that document outcomes of SCD patients with COVID-19 in Canada.

Photochromic Torsional Switch (PTS): a light-driven actuator for the dynamic tuning of π-conjugation extension.

Here we present a molecular architecture that can reversibly change the geometric conformation of its π-system backbone irradiation with two different wavelengths. The proposed 'molecular actuator' consists of a photoswitchable azobenzene orthogonally connected to a π-conjugated bithiophene by both direct and aliphatic linker-assisted bonding. Upon exposure to 350 nm light, the azobenzene moiety isomerizes to its form, causing the bithiophene to assume a semiplanar anti conformation (extended π-conjugation).

Glutamate corelease promotes growth and survival of midbrain dopamine neurons.

Recent studies have proposed that glutamate corelease by mesostriatal dopamine (DA) neurons regulates behavioral activation by psychostimulants. How and when glutamate release by DA neurons might play this role remains unclear. Considering evidence for early expression of the type 2 vesicular glutamate transporter in mesencephalic DA neurons, we hypothesized that this cophenotype is particularly important during development.

Scleroma is a specific granulomatous disease of bacterial origin, chronic evolution, with election in respiratory tracts; nose lesion is practically constant and so justifies the term Rhinoscleroma. Although they are many endemic foci throughout the world and in particular in Africa, it is an uncommon disease, often not recognized for polymorphic. The cases recorded out of already known foci concerned generally migrants; autochtonous cases in France are really infrequent.
