is associated with multidrug-resistant infections in healthcare settings, with fluoroquinolones such as ciprofloxacin being currently ineffective. Clinical isolates largely harbor mutations in the GyrA and TopoIV fluoroquinolone targets, as well as mutations that increase expression of drug resistance-nodulation-division (RND) efflux pumps. Factors critical for maintaining fitness levels of pump overproducers are uncharacterized despite their prevalence in clinical isolates.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on neurodegenerative diseases, specifically tauopathies like Pick's disease and Alzheimer's, investigating their regulatory mechanisms through epigenomic variations.
  • Researchers identified key regulatory changes associated with disease progression, revealing potential new therapeutic targets and linking specific non-coding regions and transcription factor binding to target genes.
  • They validated findings using CRISPR techniques and created an interactive database to visualize transcription factor occupancy and regulatory networks in single cells.

The work of wildland firefighters, especially of the so-called 'Brigadas de Refuerzo contra Incendios Forestales', is characterised by high physical demands and extreme operating conditions. These professionals face long workdays (12 h), walking with heavy loads (~25 kg), being exposed to high temperatures (>30 °C), and handling specialised tools in high-risk environments. This study aimed to describe the prevalence of occupational injuries among members of the 'Brigadas de Refuerzo contra Incendios Forestales' and its relationship to variables such as age and work experience.
