Article Synopsis
  • Bacteremia (SAB) is a serious condition that can lead to high rates of illness and death, especially in patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs), prompting researchers to study its incidence in first-time CIED carriers in Denmark over a 10-year period.
  • The study involved 87,257 patients from a national registry who had their first CIED implanted from 2000 to 2020, with a focus on identifying the occurrence of SAB after the procedure and understanding risk factors that contribute to it.
  • Results showed that 1.6% of patients developed SAB, with higher risks associated with specific device types and factors such as hemodialysis, previous SAB, liver disease, and demographic

Article Synopsis
  • After implantation of an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), patients face temporary driving restrictions for personal vehicles and permanent prohibitions for professional driving, impacting their job and daily activities.
  • A Danish survey revealed that among active professional drivers, 33% lost their jobs due to these driving restrictions, while 47% of previously employed patients felt restricted in maintaining their work.
  • The study indicated that younger age, higher income, and pre-implantation driving frequency increased the likelihood of significant daily living disruptions due to driving limitations after ICD implantation.

Background And Aim: There are a paucity of studies investigating workforce affiliation in connection with first-time implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD)-implantation. This study explored workforce affiliation and risk markers associated with not returning to work in patients with ICDs.

Methods: Using the nationwide Danish registers, patients with a first-time ICD-implantation between 2007 and 2017 and of working age (30-65 years) were identified.

Aims/hypothesis: We aimed to examine whether individuals with initial omission of glucose-lowering drug treatment (GLDT), including those achieving initial remission of type 2 diabetes, may experience a higher risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) compared with well-controlled individuals on GLDT after a new type 2 diabetes diagnosis in real-world clinical practice. Furthermore, we examined whether a higher risk could be related to lower initiation of statins and renin-angiotensin system inhibitors (RASi).

Methods: In this cohort study, we used Danish registers to identify individuals with a first measured HbA between 48 and 57 mmol/mol (6.

Background Guidelines recommend that patients with myocardial infarction (MI) receive equal care regardless of age. However, withholding treatment may be justified in elderly and frail patients. This study aimed to investigate trends in treatments and outcomes of older patients with MI according to frailty.
