The use of lactose and cow milk protein (CMP) as potential allergens in pharmaceuticals and their ability to cause allergic reactions remains a significant concern in medicine. Lactose, a common pharmaceutical excipient due to its inert, inexpensive, and stable properties, is found in many prescription-only and over-the-counter medications. However, despite their widespread use, individuals with lactose intolerance (LI) or cow milk protein allergy (CMPA) may experience adverse reactions to these excipients.

Assessing the cytotoxicity in A2780 (ovarian carcinoma), HCT116 (colorectal carcinoma), and HCT116DoxR (colorectal carcinoma resistant to doxorubicin) and normal primary fibroblasts revealed that Cu(II) complexes with 4-quinolinyl, 4-methoxy-1-naphthyl, 2-furanyl, and 2-pyridynyl substituents showed superior therapeutic potential in HCT116DoxR cells with significantly reduced cytotoxicity in normal fibroblasts (42-129× lower). Besides their cytotoxicity, the Cu(II) complexes are able to increase intracellular ROS and interfere with cell cycle progression, leading to cell death by apoptosis and autophagy.

Objective: To assess the effectiveness of 24 weeks of land- and water-based exercise on fatigue and sleep quality in women with fibromyalgia, and the persistence of changes 12 weeks after exercise cessation.
Design: Quasi-experimental study.
Setting: University facilities and fibromyalgia associations.
Layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly of the alternating adsorption of oppositely charged polyions is an extensively studied method to produce nanofiltration membranes. In this work, the concept of chaotropicity of the polycation and its counterion is introduced in the LbL field. In general, the more chaotropic a polyion, the lower its effective charge, charge availability, and hydrophilicity.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOrganic ionic plastic crystals (OIPCs) are a class of soft materials showing positional order while still allowing orientational freedom. Due to their motional freedom in the solid state, they possess plasticity, non-flammability and high ionic conductivity. OIPC behavior is typically exhibited by 'simple' globular molecules allowing molecular rotation, whereas the interactions that govern the formation of OIPC phases in complex non-globular molecules are less understood.
